Marion Cotillard will soon perform the role of Joan of Arc at the Royal Theater in Madrid.
A unique oratorio
Those responsible for the Royal Theater in Madrid have decided to entrust Marion Cotillard with the main role of Joan of Arc at the stake, Arthur Honegger’s oratorio, which will be given in June. Initially it was the Spanish actress Irene Escolar who was to play the title role in Joan of Arc at the stake, the oratorio by Arthur Honegger on a libretto by Paul Claudel, directed by Alex Ollé which will be offered by the Teatro Real de Madrid from June 7 to 17 in co-production with the Frankfurt Opera.

8 performances
Finally it is Marion Cotillard who will be Joan of Arc for these 8 performances. The French actress will share the stage with, in particular, actor Sébastien Durieux, soprano Sylvia Schwartz and tenor Charles Workman under the direction of Juanjo Mena who will conduct the orchestra and choirs of the Teatro Real orchestra. Honegger’s oratorio will be preceded by a Madrid premiere of La damoiselle elected, the lyric poem for 2 voices by Claude Debussy, with soprano Camilla Tilling and mezzo-soprano Enkelejda Shkosa.
