Nicolas Bedos returns behind the camera a year after “OSS 117” with an original story, shot on the Riviera, with a cast of stars, from Pierre Niney to Isabelle Adjani.

A very expected movie

If the official competition of the Cannes Film Festival 2022 is once again very promising, most of the films presented out of competition are also eagerly awaited. Among them, we obviously find Top Gun: Maverick and Three thousand years waiting for you, the new George Miller, but also Elvis, who will mark the great return of Baz Luhrmann to the cinema. Alongside these big foreign productions, there are four French films, all carried by popular names: Michel Hazanavicius, Louis Garrel, Cédric Jimenez and Nicolas Bedos. After OSS 117: Red Alert in Black Africa, released in August 2021, Nicolas Bedos returns behind the camera with Masquerade, a film he also wrote. Given the success of Mr. and Mrs. Adelman and especially La Belle Époque, his fourth film is obviously expected, especially with this cast.

The film relates the life of Adrien, an attractive dancer whose career was shattered by a motorcycle accident, who squanders his youth in the idleness of the Côte d’Azur, maintained by Martha, a former glory of cinema. His life changes when he meets Margot, a fascinating creature who lives off scams and amorous manipulations. Together, they will fantasize about a better life and set up a diabolical scheme, a sentimental masquerade. Soon a series for Prime Video Mascarade is the fourth film written and directed by Nicolas Bedos after Mr. and Mrs. Adelman and La Belle Époque, which won him the César for best original screenplay. Last year, the filmmaker directed the third part of the adventures of OSS 117, Red Alert in Black Africa that received quite coldly by critics. The film had nevertheless attracted 1.6 million admissions.
