Alongside actors from all over the world, Cécile de France will have a leading role in the ecological series “The Swarm“.

Based on a best-seller book

What if the next threat came from the ocean ? It is to this thorny question that The Swarm, an eight-episode series based on the international bestseller Abysses by Frank Schätzing published in 2004, will set out to answer, which is revealed in an ambitious first trailer. Written by Steven Lally, Marissa Lestrade, Chris Lunt and Michael A. Walker, this big-budget sci-fi thriller, which will be broadcast in France on the France 2 channel by 2023, chronicles the struggle of humanity against a unknown intelligence that lives in the depths of the sea. Humanity, opposed to an unknown intelligence living collectively in the underwater depths, places its future in the hands of a group of scientists from all over the world. The program promises to use state-of-the-art technology and be a green production.

Cécile de France in the leading role

It is the Frenchie Cécile de France who will be one of the heroines alongside the German-speaking Leonie Benesch, who we previously saw in Le Tour du monde en 80 jours and The Crown, the Swedish Alexander Karim (La wheel of time) and Canadian actor Joshua Odjick (Unsettled). Frank Doelger, the producer of the series, won five Emmy Awards for the most broadcast fantasy-medieval series in the world: Game of Thrones. Last year, in Cannes, as part of MIPTV, he announced the adaptation of the novel The Swarm (Abysses, in French), bestseller by German Frank Schätzing, printed in more than 4 million copies . The producer took advantage of the professional meeting of the world television industry to present an animated model of a key scene from his series with apocalyptic hints. Like Game of Thrones, it relies heavily on special effects.
