Asteroid City, the new film by American director Wes Anderson is currently presented at the Cannes Film Festival before its release in France on June 21.
An intriguing trailer
A resolutely vintage aesthetic, sci-fi accents and a more than muscular cast : the trailer for Wes Anderson’s next film has been unveiled, pending its theatrical release on June 21! It will be presented at the Cannes Film Festival, tomorrow Tuesday May 23 at 7 p.m. A total of 19 movies were selected this year. Many filmmakers already palmed will return to competition, including the British Ken Loach, the Turkish Nuri Bilge Ceylan or the Italian Nanni Moretti. These films could be joined by a twentieth, Killers of the Flower Moon by Martin Scorsese, with his favorite actors Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert de Niro. Just like the trailer, the synopsis of the film is intriguing : Asteroid City tells the story of a fictional American city located in the desert. In 1955, the town organized a “Junior Stargazer” convention, which brought together students and parents from all over the country for scholarly competitions. For the rest, all we have to do is deploy our imagination: will extraterrestrials be invited to the contest, as this trailer with sci-fi accents suggests ? Nothing is impossible, especially since the screenplay is signed by Wes Anderson himself!
A cast of first choice
As often with Wes Anderson, we are entitled to a cast of first choice. The list is as long as your arm, and we are not going to hide our pleasure. We catch a glimpse of Scarlett Johansson, Jason Schwartzman, Tom Hanks, Maya Hawke and Steve Carell in this first trailer but that’s not all. Indeed, Margot Robbie, Hong Chau, Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe, Rupert Friend, Tilda Swinton, Bryan Cranston or even Edward Norton appear in the cast.
