Marion Cotillard returns in a very original movie

Marion Cotillard is back in a very original project, Little Girl Blue, selected at the last Cannes Film Festival.

A mix of documentary and fiction

Marion Cotillard

In a mix of documentary, archive images and fiction, Marion Cotillard, Oscar winner for La Mome in 2008, plays at the request of director Mona Achache her mother, Carole Achache, in an introspective journey through memories and discoveries, which transform the true and the false in order to detect some secrets. A complex exercise in composition and restitution, particularly noted in Cannes and in theaters since Wednesday, November 15, 2023.

Marion Cotillard in a family drama

After Le Hérisson (2009), Les Gazelles (2014), Coeurs Vaillants (2022), or even the series HPI (2021) with Audrey Fleurot, Mona Achache returns to cinema with a particularly personal project, linked to a family drama. Carole Achache, who was a writer and photographer on film sets, committed suicide in 2016, without leaving a word. Who was she, really ? “Seized by an infantile desire to bring her back to life and also to understand her actions”, Mona, her daughter, has unearthed tons of family photos, interviews with her and those who knew her as well as her grandmother, Monique Achache, writer, editor at Gallimard, friend of Violette Leduc and Jean Genet.

A friend of Marguerite Duras and Albert Camus

In this movie we discover memories of a bygone era – the 1950s – and of a circle of immortal artists that Carole Achache rubbed shoulders with – Marguerite Duras or Albert Camus, in particular. All these elements will allow us to better understand the disappearance of the famous photographer. Going further in the work of understanding, she asks Marion Cotillard to slip into the role of Carole, facing the camera, for an innovative style exercise.
