The Bibliothèque Nationale de France Richelieu is dedicating an exhibition on the beginnings of the Renaissance, in the heart of its magnificent libraries, from February to June 2024. From the 14th to the 16th century, Europe was the scene of intellectual ferment, new artistic and scientific, which posterity has consecrated under the name of Renaissance. Humanism is at its heart : born in 14th century Italy and characterized by the return to ancient texts and the restoration of values civilization of which they were bearers, the humanist movement produced in West a new model of culture, which has profoundly modified the forms of thought like those of art. The princes and the powerful have gone soon seized to found on it a renewed image of themselves, as This is particularly attested by the large and magnificent libraries that they have brought together.

Literature and art occupy a place mistress
The BnF is devoting an exhibition to this cultural epic and this decisive moment in the advent of our modernity, where literature and art occupy a place mistress. The presentation of more than 200 works including manuscripts, printed books, prints, drawings, paintings, sculptures and art objects, coins and medals from the collections of the BnF and external loans from major Parisian collections (Louvre museum, museum Jacquemart-André) immerses the visitor in the universe of thought and the world of Renaissance humanists.
