Unique, the Fan Museum, whose room with its 188 drawers was classified as a Historic Monument in 2004, needs the support of individuals.

The only fan museum in France

Developed and transmitted over four generations, the place today combines museum and workshop. It is a unique time capsule, one of the three remaining fan workshops and the only museum dedicated to it in France. But the museum is now in difficulty, it needs the support of individuals. A kitty launched by SOS Paris on February 14 could save it thanks to tax-free donations. Neither the petition addressed to the town hall of Paris, nor the alerts of its director, Anne Hoguet, one of the last fan makers in France, resulted in the Ministry of Culture.

Classified as a Historic Monument

The Fan Museum was opened in 1993. It is partly installed in the exhibition room created in 1893 by the fan makers Lépault & Deberghe. In 1993, with the help of an association of enthusiasts, the fan museum opened at this same address, around the living room, classified as a Historic Monument since 2004, and an exceptional collection of both fans and in workshop funds including tools, archives and documents unique in Europe. It is made up of more than 2,500 pieces, dating from the 16th to the 20th centuries, on Mythological, Historical, Religious, Orientalist, Marriage, Arts, Sciences and Letters, Fashion and Advertising themes.

Historical creations

The mission of the museum is to present the intriguing world of fans and share its changes over the centuries. The collections cover both historical creations and the development of manufacturing techniques. Unfortunately crushed by an accumulation of rent debts to the social landlord mainly due to the health crisis, this museum which has a fabulous collection of 2,500 fans from the 16th to the 20th century is threatening to close. The museum has just obtained the support of the association SOS Paris which launched this Monday, February 14, 2022 an online kitty with tax exemption this time on Hello Asso: It must thus reach 43,000 € so that the Museum of the Fan can continue to exist !
