Marquis de Sade’s castle in the village

The castle of Lacoste is a Lacoste place, the charming village of the Luberon mythical But the most famous monument of Lacoste remains its castle which belonged to the famous Marquis de Sade. You certainly remember this author with multiple scandals due to his erotic writings and his particular mores. He was forced to leave Paris and settle in his grandfather’s castle, located in Lacoste. Today, the castle is largely in ruins, having been attacked by revolutionaries, but it retains a majestic appearance dominating the village and its ramparts. A cultural festival, organized by its current owner, fashion designer Pierre Cardin, brings it back to life each summer through a series of concerts and ballets.
