The Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte is masterpiece of classical architecture from the mid-17th century, It inspired the Palace of Versailles.

A historical monument

Sublime private property belonging since 1875 to the descendant of the art lover Alfred Sommer, the castle of Vaux-le-vicomte is classified as a historical monument. The Vaux-le-Vicomte estate is the fruit of a creative and passionate spirit, that of Nicolas Fouquet. To build his home, he enlisted the services of three of the greatest artists of the Grand Siècle: the architect Louis Le Vau, the landscape gardener André Le Nôtre and the painter and decorator Charles Le Brun. Here, they united their genius to build a model whose majesty and balance inspired Louis XIV at Versailles and then all of Europe for more than a century.

The French Garden

Garden Vaux-le-Vicomte is the founding work of the French garden. Thanks to Nicolas Fouquet, the famous gardener André Le Nôtre obtained, from 1641, the possibility of demonstrating the full extent of his genius. It brings together for the first time on a large scale all the technical, scientific and artistic achievements of its time in the field of gardens.

A lot of activities

Throughout the year, the castle offers activities to rediscover the estate in a different way:

Easter : a giant treasure hunt and egg hunt in the gardens.

Candlelight evenings : every Saturday evening from May 14th to October 1st, the castle and the gardens are adorned with 2000 candles

The Water Games : regularly, all the fountains in the park are turned on for a unique moment.

Grand Siècle Day : a costume day, a journey through time at the court in the 17th century on June 26, 2022.

Vaux-le-Vicomte en Fête : a thousand and one decorations and illuminations transport you to a marvelous and magical world (from November 19, 2022 to December 31, 2022).
