With “Relive, extinct animals in augmented reality“, the National Museum of Natural History invites you to live a unique experience in augmented reality to discover extinct species.

Bring extinct animals back to life

An augmented reality journey

Who has never imagined walking alongside species, contemporaneous with Man, which have now disappeared ? This new augmented reality journey brings 11 species of animals that are now extinct or in danger of extinction back to life. Let yourself be carried away by a unique wandering in the room of threatened and extinct species of the Grande Galerie de l’Évolution. Here parade the showcases of animals and plants that are no longer or almost no longer found on Earth today. The causes ? They are most often linked to man who has not always been able to preserve this nature of which he was a part.

Bring extinct animals back to life

Animated in their real size

From the beetle to the giant tortoise, the Revivre experience presents you with species fully modeled in 3D and animated in their real size. Dodo, large saber-toothed tiger, Steller’s rhytine, elephant bird or Tasmani tiger, like 3-dimensional holograms, these fascinating species come back to life before your eyes. But then how did they live and what are the causes of their disappearance? A voice tells you the story of these species and their interactions with humans. Your guide? A migratory pigeon – which disappeared at the beginning of the 20th century – with silvery pink wings accompanies you from species to species. At the end of the course, the animated species come together to give you a last greeting… This experience also sheds light on current species suffering from anthropogenic pressures and on the good practices of indigenous peoples from which we can draw inspiration. It invites us to take another look at all the species presented in the Grande Galerie de l’Évolution. You are transported to the daily life and places of life of these animals from different continents, sometimes finding yourself under the sea, in the heart of a Thai forest or in a peaceful African meadow. Equipped with augmented reality glasses, live a spectacular and friendly immersive experience !

Unlike the virtual reality headset, you can continue to interact with others while enjoying the beautiful scenery around you.
