Monica Bellucci is on view at the Théâtre du Châtelet with readings of “Letters and Memoirs” by Maria Callas, on November 14 and 15, 2022.

Monica Bellucci

The diva of divas

On the stage of the Opéra Comédie, actress Monica Bellucci embodies, with her warm voice and incomparable Italian accent, the diva of divas, Maria Callas. Following the publication of his Letters and Memoirs by Albin Michel, Tom Volf, the director of Maria by Callas (2017), stages a very fair journey. “One day, I will write my autobiography, I would like to write it myself in order to set things straight. There have been so many lies told about me…” said Maria Callas.

A childhood in New-York

From the modest childhood of Maria Callas in New York to the war years in Athens, from her debut at the opera to the heights of a planetary career tainted by scandals and personal trials, from the idealized love for her husband to his fiery passion for Onassis, this unique tale takes us through the true story behind the legend. Sometimes Maria, the vulnerable woman, torn between her life on stage and her private life, is revealed, sometimes Callas, the artist victim of her demands and in perpetual battle with her voice. Despite the loneliness of her Parisian years, she continued to work tirelessly until her last breath, at the age of 53.

A first time for Monica Bellucci

An inner, fair and moving interpretation of the greatest voice of the 20th century where the tragic destiny of a human and fragile woman shines through. Despite a very full film career with the greatest filmmakers (Francis Ford Coppola, Gaspar Noé, the Wachowskis, Spike Lee, Kim Chapiron, Alain Corneau, Sam Mendes, Claude Lelouch, Emir Kusturica…), Monica Bellucci had not yet never walked the boards. It is now done with these readings.
