Five exceptional evenings

Immersed in darkness and equipped with a flashlight, you will first descend into the crypt where the Great Men and Great Women are buried. With the help of a quiz, you can go from vault to vault by associating the honored personalities with their painted, sculpted or photographic portraits. This is enough to discover an unknown and poignant facet of these national figures while reflecting on the evolution of the notion of representation throughout history.

A game for the visitors

The route of this Night at the Pantheon will continue in the nave. You will be able to enjoy the exceptional architecture and the many works of the monument in a privileged and intimate setting. Thanks to a game that will invite you to contemplation and reflection, you will go in search of unsuspected details in the decor of the building, between the mounted canvases, the sculptures and the Foucault pendulum.

Created by Soufflot

By creating exemplary religious architecture, Soufflot, its builder, responded to Louis XV’s wish to glorify the monarchy with dignity in the person of Saint Geneviève, patroness of Paris, to whom the building was dedicated. In 1791, the Revolution transformed the monument into a temple of great men. In the 19th century, it received, according to successive regimes, an assignment that was sometimes religious, sometimes patriotic. Since 1885, the date of Victor Hugo’s entry into the Pantheon, the building has become the place where the great men of the country rest: Voltaire, Rousseau, Zola, Pierre and Marie Curie... and since July 1, 2018, Simone Veil .
