Joaquin Phoenix and Ridley Scott have just teamed up again for a historical epic, that of Napoleon !
An emblematic character in the History of France
“This movie is made for the big screen,” said Tom Rothman, head of Sony Pictures, the film’s distributor. After The Joker, Joaquin Phoenix slips this time into the skin of Napoleon Bonaparte, an emblematic character in the History of France as a general in the armies of the First French Republic, born of the Revolution, and Emperor of the French. The feature film will focus on the beginning of the career of the future Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte and his rise to power, through the prism of his relationship with Joséphine, who became his wife in 1796, as indicated by AFP in January 2021 .

French actors in the cast
Battle in the snow, cannon fire or even bursts of blood, the images revealed highlight a real carnage. From the top of his hill, we discover the interpreter of the “Joker”, Joaquin Phoenix, in the skin of the great military leader. “Epic is the only apt description for this Apple Original movie,” said Tom Rothman, President of Sony Pictures Entertainment. On the casting side, Joséphine de Beauharnais is played by Vanessa Kirby. The French actor Tahar Rahim plays the role of Paul Barras, a political figure of the Revolution who will become close to the Emperor.
Tahar Rahim won’t be the only French actor on the bill – Ludivine Sagnier and the young Edouard Philipponnat (preview in House of Gucci, Ridley Scott’s previous film in 2021) will also be there ). Apple TV+ recently announced that the film will hit theaters in November in the United States (and November 22 in France).
