Franz Kafka and his works are the subject of an exhibition by illustrator Jiri Sliva at the Czech Embassy in Paris.

The gates of the Czech Embassy in Paris (15 avenue Charles-Floquet, 75007-Paris) currently offer us around twenty drawings by Jiri Sliva on the theme of Kafka. An exhibition of works by the graphic artist and illustrator Jiří Slíva is currently exhibited in Paris. It feature a number of drawings, color lithographs, etchings, pastels and oil paintings on the artist’s favorite themes – Franz Kafka. Jiří Slíva has been preoccupied with Jewish humor and illustrating the works of Franz Kafka for many years.

In December 2017, the Franz Kafka Publishing House published My Cup of Kafka, a book featuring Slíva’s main artworks inspired by the great writer. A selection of these works will be on display at the exhibition.
Jirí Slíva was born in 1947 in Pilsen and has lived in Prague since 1966. He studied economics at the University of Prague and then worked for eight years as a sociologist. The first drawings by Jirí Slíva were published in 1972 and since this was crowned with success, he decided to dedicate himself full time to cartoons, graphic art, illustrations and painting. He has published 10 personal cartoon books in several countries: the Czech Republic, Germany, Switzerland, France and the United States. His cartoons have also been published in more than 150 books, many Czech newspapers and some international magazines such as Die Zeit, Stern, New York Times, Nebelspalter, Die Welt, Los Angeles Times…
