It was one of the most anticipated films of the end of 2020, directed and performed by Valérie Lemercier, Aline is a fiction freely inspired by the life of Celine Dion. The film has seen its release repeatedly postponed and is now announced on November 10. Aline is a very successful film, full of emotion and humor, which will delight not only Celine Dion fans but also all those who will want to have a good time with family or friends at the cinema.
Celine Dion’s life… or almost
The film sets its scene in Quebec in the 1960s. Mr and Mrs Dieu welcome their 14th child, Aline. With the Dieus, music reigns supreme and, even if the end of the month is sometimes difficult, life is joyful. Aline grows up and discovers a gift: she has a golden voice. The music producer Guy-Claude, when he discovered Aline’s talent, had only one idea in mind: to make Aline a global star.

A spectacular transformation
Celine Dion‘s role from childhood to adulthood is played by one person …: Valérie Lemercier 57 years old. To look like Celine Dion, at any age, Valérie Lemercier trained on body language and the Quebec accent. And, she was able to rely on makeup: “They didn’t put latex on me to make me look like her, I just took off my ears throughout the movie.” And that’s not all: “There was an addition of teeth, from when I was little until the age of eighteen. They also reduced my forehead, her hair is lower than me.”
An authentic and endearing star
You have to be daring to write and direct such a biopic on a living character without permission from the artist concerned, but the result should delight not only Celine Dion but also her audience. Valerie Lemercier, a true Celine Dion fan, attached herself to the authenticity and the intimacy of the star, with as much modesty as humor.
