The first glass of champagne

Champagne can be drunk in flutes or in “coupes“. The flute is used more frequently because it retains the aroma and bubbles of champagne better. Legend has it that the first champagne glass was cast on the breast of the Marquise de Pompadour (1721-1764), who was Louis XV’s favorite mistress. Others claim that it was cast on the breast of Marie-Antoinette (1755-1793), Queen of France and wife of Louis XVI.
