On the occasion of France’s presidency of the Council of the European Union, Citéco – La Cité de L’Économie is devoting an exhibition to Simone Veil, from March 15 to October 31, 2022.
An exceptional woman
Born on July 13, 1927, Simone Veil was the first woman appointed Minister of State and President of the European Parliament in 1979. A survivor of the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp, this great woman led various battles, throughout his life. Between memory and hope, she has worked with all her strength for the construction of a united and united Europe, independent and at peace. An emblematic figure of feminism, Simone Veil also defended the law legalizing the voluntary termination of pregnancy, which came into force in 1975. In partnership with Paris Match, the Cité de l’Économie intends to pay tribute to Simone Veil in Paris.

An inspiring woman
From March 15, culture lovers will discover a photographic exhibition dedicated to this powerful and inspiring woman, who also marked history through her European political commitment. Installed in the elegant Hall Defrasse of the Cité de l’Économie, the exhibition combines both photographic archives, from the collection of Paris Match, and sound extracts from interviews and speeches, immersing us in the life of Simone Veil. Throughout the exhibition, the voice of the great figure of feminism accompanies us, through a journey bearing witness to the highlights of her rich political career.
