“Pharaohs Superstars“, which covers 5000 years of history, will be the event exhibition in Marseille this summer .

International icons
Cheops, Nefertiti, Tutankhamun, Ramses and Cleopatra are names that are familiar to us, thousands of years after the death of the rulers who bore them. But who today remembers Téti, Sesostris or Nectanebo ? The ‘Pharaohs Superstars’ exhibition tells how some ancient Egyptian kings and queens have become international icons today, while others who had their heyday in antiquity almost fell into oblivion. Between history and legend, this journey over 5,000 years leads the visitor to discover the exploits and especially the posthumous notoriety of these exotic characters that are the pharaohs. The latter can serve as a parable to illustrate the nature and ways of fame, reminding us that fame is fleeting, fickle and does not always have to do with historical merit.

nearly 300 pieces of art
From Egyptian hieroglyphs to pop music, medieval illuminations and classical painting, the originality of this exhibition is to bring together a wide variety of works of art, historical documents and contemporary consumer objects. All testify to the popularity of the pharaohs, their name or their image, and often say more about our contemporary societies, our imagination and our aspirations. The exhibition presents nearly 300 pieces from the Mucem funds and the largest French and European collections, including the Louvre Museum (Paris) Ancient Egypt continues to fascinate young and old. A rich and fascinating story. There is no doubt that many holidaymakers passing through the Phocaean city will come to the Mucem to discover this new exhibition.
