The 37-year-old filmmaker, who between two films took the time to direct a few episodes of the musical series The Eddy (Netflix), once again looks at the cinema industry in this film set in the middle of a golden age. of Hollywood cinema, in the 1920s, at a time that sealed the victory of talkies over silent cinema.

A colossal project

The director has been preparing this colossal project for fifteen years already, and says he is fascinated by this « time when there was no roadmap, when everything was new and wild » in an interview with the American media Vanity Fair. . With its insane cast : Brad Pitt, Robbie, but also the appearances of Tobey Maguire, Spike Jonze, Olivia Wilde, Jean Smart or even Flea, the bass player of the Red Hot Chili Peppers – and its aesthetic ambition, Babylon has all the cards in hand to make a splash at the next Oscars. The film will be released on December 25 in the United States, just in time to be eligible for the Oscars, then in France on January 18, 2023.
