The cinema adaptation of Cyrano de Bergerac will finally be released in French theaters on March 30, 2022.
A bad performance
Contrary to what had recently been indicated, the cinema release of the musical “Cyrano”, in which the American actor Peter Dinklage (“Game of Thrones”) embodies the hero of Edmond Rostand, is maintained. The American company Metro Goldwyn Mayer (MGM) had indeed taken the decision to cancel its release in France, due to the underperformance of the movie in the United States and the United Kingdom. But this Thursday, March 10, the production company Universal Pictures France announced that the feature film directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Joe Wright will land on the big screens on March 30, as planned.
An adpatation of an English musical
In “Cyrano”, Peter Dinklage gives the reply to Haley Bennett, who portrays the precious Roxane, an intellectual keen on literature and with whom Cyrano is madly in love. In the role of Christian de Neuvillette, we find Kelvin Harrison Jr. Adaptation of a 2018 English musical comedy itself adapting the play Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmond Rostand and directed by Joe Wright (The Dark Hours), Cyrano with Peter Dinklage in the title role was due for release on March 30 with us. It seems that its disappointing box office in the USA (2.6 million dollars for a budget of 30) where it was released at the end of December sounded the death knell for a theatrical exploitation of the film.
A love triangle
Cyrano is a love story that revolves around three characters Cyrano (Performed by Peter Dinklage), Roxanne (By Haly Bennett), Christian (By Kelvin Harrison Jr.), It follows Cyrano, a gifted poet, who loves Roxanne but knows considering his short height she will never love him. On the other hand Roxanne loves Christian but hesitates to tell him, moreover Cyrano helps Christian through his poetry to make her fall in love with the first. Well received by American critics, Cyrano however received two nominations for the Golden Globes (Best film and Best actor in the comedy/musical category).
