A performance that charmed the audience.

The Canadian-American singer Rufus Wainwright, was back in Paris yesterday for a memorable concert at the Grand Rex on the occasion of the release of his latest album, “Unfollow The Rules“, Rufus Wainwright fans were surprised to see Catherine Deneuve land on the stage of the Grand Rex, where the singer was performing this Wednesday evening. As Le Parisien reports, after 45 minutes of concert, the 78-year-old French star joined Rufus Wainwright, to the applause of the public who even stood up for a long ovation.

“A crazy challenge”

“It’s really the first time you’ve sung on stage. Can you explain a bit to me?” Then the singer asked Catherine Deneuve, who revealed why she agreed to do this “madness”. “It’s him, it’s his voice, his name, that’s what decided me. I never went on stage, I never sang live. I sang a lot in the cinema, in lip-synching of course. But it was he who gave me a crazy challenge, an incredible madness. But hey, it’s done”. The duo then took over “Dieu est un fumeur de Havanes”, the title that Serge Gainsbourg had written in 1980 for the soundtrack of I love you, a movie by Claude Berri. If Catherine Deneuve has sung in the cinema, she has often been dubbed as in Les Demoiselles de Rochefort, Peau d’Ane and Les Parapluies de Cherbourg. On the other hand, we can hear her voice in Dancer in the dark, by Lars Von Trier .
