Woody Allen has started shooting Wasp22, his 50th movie shot in Paris, in French, with a “made in France” cast .

Woody Allen

A French casting

Woody Allen began shooting this Monday, October 3, his fiftieth film in Paris with French actors, and in French, a great first for the director ! “It will be funny because I’ve always wanted to be a French director,” the filmmaker told us from Manhattan last July. “But I only speak a few words of French. My French is almost non-existent. And it will be interesting to see if I manage to complete this project successfully.” This film, named Wasp22 will not be Woody Allen’s first film shot in Paris, we obviously remember the emblematic Midnight in Paris (2011).

Woody Allen

His last movie

The American filmmaker has already convinced several leading French actors to join the cast. Thus, the four main actors who will play in the director’s next feature film are Valérie Lemercier, Niels Schneider, Lou de Laâge and Melvil Poupaud. If for the moment we do not know the name of their respective characters, nor the function of their role, we know that they will also be surrounded by Elsa Zylberstein, Guillaume de Tonquédec and Grégory Gadebois who complete the cast. This film will probably be Woody Allen’s last. In an interview with the Catalan newspaper La Vanguardia, Woody Allen announced his retirement from directing this film.

89,000 spectators for his last movie

Ostracized in the United States since #MeToo, the four-time Oscar-winning New Yorker has continued to find a relatively loyal audience in recent years in Europe and especially in France. But his latest movie, “Rifkin’s Festival“, shot in San Sebastián with Louis Garrel, only brought together 89,000 spectators when it was released. For “Wasp22”, Woody Allen will work for the 5th time with the Italian director of photography Vittorio Storaro (“Apocalypse Now”), his partner since “Café Society”.
