If his role as Louis XV in the new film by Maïwenn, Jeanne du Barry which has just been presented at the opening of the Cannes Film Festival – already marks the great return of Johnny Depp to the cinema, information relating to the shooting of Modi (2024) only confirm its rebirth on the big screen. If Johnny Depp is generally known as an actor, he is much less so for his talents as a director. However in 1997, the native of Owensboro in Kentucky unveiled The Brave, a feature film retracing the story of a man concluding a pact with the Devil to save his family from misery. Twenty-five years later, he puts on his director’s hat again to present his second film, Modi, to the world.

Pierre Niney in the cast

The biopic on Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani will be worn by actor Riccardo Scamarcio (who played in the second installment of the John Wick saga). Pierre Niney, for his part, slipped into the shoes of another painter from the School of Paris: Maurice Utrillo, the son of Suzanne Valadon, a great friend of Modigliani, with whom he toured bistros, bartering his paintings for glasses. Co-producer of the film, Al Pacino will camp for his part the wealthy collector Maurice Gangnat, a lover of avant-garde paintings.
Modi, whose exact release date is not yet known, remains eagerly awaited by art lovers and fans of Depp, who saw in this cursed painter the echo of his own destructive flaws…
